Be Very Specific With Your Desire or Risk Losing Confidence
Do you really know what you desire? As you survey the unlimited contrast around you from your unique perspective you are always free to choose exactly what you don’t want and what you do want.
So have you been taking full personal responsibility for clearly identifying what you really want in your life experience? In some areas yes I am sure. Your foreign holidays are typically an example of where you can easily identify what you do want and then you will explore a variety of options, fine tuning your needs as you go, until you identify precisely the holiday that you are enthusiastic enough about to book and pay for. But in many other areas of your life you are not in the habit of being so specific.

Any unconscious approach to what will make you happy will commonly be oriented towards the avoidance of what you don’t want far more than the acquisition of what you do want. Are you currently oriented towards your own happiness? A simple truth is that: 1. If you are, you tend to focus on what you do want 2. If you aren’t, you tend to focus on what you don’t want The contrasting world in which you live will always offer you what you don’t want, and unconsciously you have developed habits of devoting too much attention to what you don’t want. As an analogy, you are hungry and you have entered a Self Service Buffet that contains every type of food imaginable. You walk from one end of the buffet to the other claiming: • I don’t like that • That makes me ill • I tried that once but it didn’t agree with me • Surely nobody eats that • I certainly don’t want any of that The kind lady behind the buffet says “You will be able to satisfy your hunger a lot quicker if you just focus on what you do want to put on your plate”. If you haven't been specific about your desires you will easily have your attention drawn towards what you don't want, which in turn will generate negative feelings! • You might feel frustrated because something isn’t quite how you want it • You might be feeling anger because someone has really upset you • You might be feeling depressed because you feel powerless to do anything about something The list of potential scenarios is endless. In essence what any negative emotion is showing you is that at this precise moment in time you are focused on what you don’t want, whether it is a: • Manifested non-desire - The presence of something you don’t want • Non-manifested desire - The absence of something you do want In the absence of clearly defined desires you are abdicating your true power, and it is from this stance that your self confidence will start to suffer. How can you be truly confident if you don't know what you want? One of the first elements of the
Empowerment Process is to specify your desire,
so that you become completely clear about what you do want. To feel completely confident it is no longer acceptable to only know what you don't want. You must utilise that knowledge to choose for yourself your own goals and objectives, and in so doing re-ignite the natural self confidence within you.
