Depression Demands That You Exercise Your Own Power

Depression is a very strong emotional signal that shows you that your life has caused you to want something very strongly.

Interestingly enough you might not be completely aware of exactly what it is that you do want. How could that be?

Depression Because your Desire has developed naturally even though you have been focusing almost exclusively on what you don't want. If you were asked now to write a list of all the things you don't want it will be a very long list.

If you could just become a little bit more focused on what you do want you would start to feel some emotional relief. You wouldn't suddenly feel fantastic, but you would feel better as you gradually moved up the Emotional Scale, which ranges from Joy all the way down to Depression. In fact the first emotion of relief you will feel will probably be Anger. Anger actually shows you that you are slightly less disempowered than when you were depressed and that you have taken some ownership back of your experience. You don't want to continue to feel angry for any period of time so you must reach for relief again.

Part of the challenge in our modern society is that displays of anger are so unacceptable, and as both children and adults we are all told that we must not display anger which only causes a slide back down the emotional scale into depression.

When disempowerment is being experienced, the Empowerment Process offers four key recommendations that will deliver significant benefits in short timescales.

  1. Be specific about what you do want, using your existing clarity on what you don't want where necessary
  2. Focus your attention increasingly on what you do want
  3. Explore the sponsoring beliefs that have generated the resistance to your natural empowerment
  4. Monitor your feelings and reach continually for any feeling of relief
The truth is that you are a very powerful being, and when you are almost totally disconnected from your own power you feel depressed, who wouldn't?
