Anger Is Fuelled By You Trying To Control Things You Can't Control
Anger is a powerful negative emotion that shows you that you have a very powerful desire in operation. You are focusing on either: - Something that you want that is not present.
- Something that you really don't want that is present in your experience.

As most people are far more familiar with what they don't want than with what they do
Desire,
the second scenario is most likely to be the cause of your anger. For example someone cuts you up in traffic and immediately you can feel your blood starting to boil: - You don't want other drivers to be inconsiderate around you.
- You don't want to be put in danger by other drivers
- You don't like their arrogance
On some days you might let this incident impact a large part of your day by keeping your
Focus of Attention On The Anger
generated by this circumstance and then by discussing it with everyone you meet, and continually revisiting it in your mind. You
Believe
that this sort of driver must be stopped, arrested and taught a severe lesson. You want to make sure that, this that you don't want, never happens again, you want to control it out of your experience. Well, how are you doing with that approach? It's not just you, it is most people, corporations, governments, religions.......in some small way or another people are continually trying to control things they can't control. The only problem with this approach is that it does not work. If you keep focusing on what you don't want you keep getting more and more of what you don't want. More and more of what makes you angry. As you experience more and more of what you don't want despite your protests you feel less and less in control of your experience and
Depression
is the net result, the feeling of total disempowerment. But today is different. Today you have become aware of your natural power and you are determined to adopt an alternative approach. You now appreciate your
Emotional Guidance System
and you understand that the one thing you can control is how you feel. You decide to concentrate on feeling better by reaching for the best feeling you can find from where you are. You decide to abide by the principles offered by the
Empowerment Process
So in the moment that you notice something that you really don't want and you can feel your Anger building up, you: - Decide what it is that you do want instead of this
- Distract yourself away from what you don't want
- Look for evidence of what you do want
- Believe that what you want is achievable
- Feel for a bit of relief
You understand that you are not going to take a quantum leap up the
Emotional Scale
through this practice, but you do expect to make an incremental step up the scale and that is enough for you.You have in effect released some of the resistance with regards to this subject that you have been holding onto for a long time. That is real progress! You are now focusing on what you can control - you.
